What is Kill-A-Watt?
We are a student organization at the University of Michigan that plans and implements the Kill-A-Watt competition. Founded in the Winter of 2010, we are new to campus and comprise of 30+ enthusiastic members and an 8-member executive board. We are open to new ideas and we hope to convey the relevance of sustainability to all students, regardless of their interest in environmental issues. To get involved, attend one of our weekly meetings by contacting us.
We participate in campus events and collaborate with other student organizations year-round.
We publicize in residence halls to alert students of our events and enable them to take part in our effort to reduce energy use. Students in halls with more than a 10% reduction compared to previous years are eligible to win prizes and scholarships.
We enjoy each other’s company and hold various social events throughout the year to get to know one another and bond over our common interest in killing watts!
We hold fun events with food to attract students. Here, students will have a good time learning about sustainability issues and how to go about them while having a good time with friends.
At the end of the Kill-A-Watt competition, we hold Kill-A-Watt unplugged, a free, zero-waste, low-energy concert!
